CHN and NBADraft's mocks not kind to UNC players

. Sunday, November 30, 2008

College Hoops Net has their first mock draft for the 2009 NBA draft out. I also found the NBADraft.net mock for the upcoming season. While I think it is way too early for all of this (there is over 200 days before the actual draft), I always put up these things, because I love to watch them change with time. For those of you, like myself, that are Tar Heel fans I think this one isn't going to be too pleasing.

For College Hoops Net no North Carolina players make it into the lottery part of the draft. The first three picks are a sophomore, Blake Griffin, and two internationals, Ricky Rubio and Brandon Jennings (I just had to put that in, since I found it funny to call him an international player). In all, in the top 14 picks, CHN has three freshmen, three sophomores, four juniors, 1 senior and 3 internationals. But none are Tar Heels.

The first Carolina player to be picked, by what this mock draft says is Wayne Ellington, who is going to go 16th. Right after the junior shooting guard is the big man for the Heels, Tyler Hansbrough, who would go 17th. Then nothing for the rest of the first round, and only at the 33rd pick do we see another player from Chapel Hill being picked. That player would be speedy point guard Ty Lawson. And that is it. Danny Green isn't mentioned, and no one else is either.

Even worst when it comes to NBADraft net, not only do the the three Heels not make it into the lottery, they slide down into the 20's. Once again Ellington is the best of the UNC trio, going 21st. He is followed once again by the reigning NPOY Tyler Hansbrough, going 22nd. And in the second round Ty Lawson once again goes 33rd, with no sign of Danny Green anywhere.

I have to say I am pretty baffled that both of these mock draft have put Lawson so low. Especially when last year he was looked at as the 20th pick until he decided to come back to college. But I am more than certain that as this UNC squad gains momentum through the season he and Danny Green will be a lot better placed in the mock drafts to come. But until then, this is the first one I saw and wanted to share it with you.
