I guess I am learning what one of the big differences between a blogger and the main stream media is. Or should I say, I guess I am learning what is one of the difference between me as a blogger and most of the media out there. What is it you might ask, the answer is simple, I try to enjoy the moment, the next game, the fun of waiting for one game at a time. It seems that everywhere you go the question is becoming "are the Tar Heels going to go undefeated or not". It's becoming the only thing that really matters for this season. Well not for me.
I want to cherish and enjoy every single game, every single minute, every single play of a group of young men that I will not see in those Carolina Blue jerseys once the season is over. Last year's national Player of the Year Tyler Hansbrough is a senior this time around, meaning this is his last year at North Carolina. Next to him (unless he gets a pass by the NCAA) is going to be Bobby Frasor, and once he is back from his injury Marcus Ginyard is on his last run at Chapel Hill as well. Also in this list you can add another student athlete at his last run, Mike Copeland.
Another senior, and a player who wanted to go pro last year, but came back is Danny Green, and with him there are two juniors who are probably on their last run under the tuteledge of head coach Roy Williams, Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington. And that is a long list, that you can add to it with the walk ons that are on this team. Because of all these young men, who have given a lot of sweat and work for the team I love, I am not going to fast forward to the end of the season to see if they are undefeated or not. I am going to watch each and every game and cherish them all.
This is a huge class leaving, one that has had great talent, has given us a lot of joys, and has come close to winning it all. Now, on their last ride through the ACC and the post season, could they win it all? I hope so, but I will worry about that when it is selection Sunday, for now I am just going to enjoy the ride through the pre season, beginning with UC Santa Barbara (where I wrote about Trekking with the Heels, Destination Santa Barbara) and from there Hawaii, but always, always, one game at a time.
