UNC Baseball begins fall practices

. Monday, September 22, 2008

With football season in full swing, and basketball season slowly (but surely) coming along, here is a small article from the official site about another good sport at Carolina. Today the Diamond Heels, lead by skipper Mike Fox (`08 Baseball America National Coach of the Year), begin their fall practice, which will run through November 2nd, and then the Heels will hold its annual Fall World Series from November 3rd through the 5th.

Headlining the Heels this year will be the three returning All Americans, who happen to be all three juniors. First Baseman/Outfielder Dustin Ackley, Second/Third Baseman Kyle Seager and Pitcher Alex White. Adding to this trio of players should be senior Second Baseman/OF Garrett Gore, junior Catcher Mark Fleury, junior Outfielder Mike Cavasini and junior utility Infielder Ryan Graepel.

Another familiar name for those of us that follow this team is Chad Flack, who returns to the team as an undergraduate assistant. Without a doubt Flack will help with the hitting side of the game for the Tar Heels, and this isn't the only addition for the coaching staff, Scott Jackson, who is the new recruiting coordinator, will be doing his fall practice with the Heels. The talent is there to have this team go to the College World Series for the fourth straight time, something I am sure that head coach Mike Fox wouldn't mind doing in his eleventh season at the helm of the team.
