I know this is not going to come as surprise to anyone, but since it does have to do with North Carolina I thought I would put a post about it. Newly inducted Hall of Famer Dick Vitale has come out with his pre-season Top 40 teams in the nation. And surprise, surprise, Roy Williams' squad is on top of the ranking. Yes, as I said, this was not going to come as a surprise to anyone, but it is nice to see everyone agreeing that the Tar Heels are the best team in the country!
You can check out the whole list at the above link, but here is a run down of the Top Five teams. After UNC it is Louisvilee (Big East), then UConn (Big East), UCLA (Pac-10) and Texas (Big 12). The next ACC team to come into Vitale's list is Duke at the 9th slot, then you have Va Tech and Miami (Fl) in the 20th and 21st spot. Clemson closes the list for the conference, coming in the list at the 32nd position.
With five teams (out of 12) in the list, you could say that this will make for good competition in the conference. Will some of these teams move up or down? I am not too sure, but it is pretty nice to see the new generation of teams getting some due praise, even if by Vitale (and not the AP or Coaches Poll).
