Step by step the Heels are readying themselves for the season

. Monday, August 11, 2008

For the Tar Heels on Saturday the first one is over and done. The first scrimmage that is. From what I have read around the internet it seems that it went pretty well, especially considering that the pre-season is not even two weeks old. Stats weren't kept of the game/scrimmage, but from what I read it seems that the running game was working better than most would hope for.

The defense might need some more tuning, but then again, as I said above, it is ten days into pre-season, and there is plenty of time before the season begins. Does that mean that there is no room for improvement? Of course not, everyone has to improve without a doubt. But what team ten days into practice doesn't need to improve? The key is that it seems that the Heels are moving forward well and they are adapting to the system better than last year and that is what the team, the coaching staff and the fan base are hoping for.

And, maybe just maybe, the best news of all from pre-season camp is that there are no injuries to be reported. Yes, some bumps and bruises are out there, but nothing that is going to keep anyone out of games come the regular season. So as the days go by and the first of the season comes closer and closer Butch Davis and his team seem truly set to have a great season for this year.
