As the game is about to begin I give you my "Final Thoughts" on it. Just like the "First Thoughts" I did at the beginning of the week, these too are random and just off the top of my head as I think about the game. These thoughts are just what I feel as the game is about to begin, nothing more and nothing less.First thought: What UNC player is going to be the most talked about after this game. Greg Little? The WR duo? Yates? Someone else? I can't wait to see (or should I say hear) the game and see what happens in this game. I think that there is going to be impressive strides made this year and this game is going to show some of them.
Second thought: If UNC is winning big which of the back ups will we see replace Yates. With the semi-controversy brewing at the QB position if the Heels were to be winning big who replaces Yates is going to tell who the second stringer is and that might ruffle feathers. I want to see how this is handled by head coach Butch Davis.
Third thought: 1,000 yard back or 1,000 yard receiver or both. I want to see what happens with this squad on offense, who is going to emerge and what type of offensive schemes are we going to see for the season. Are we going to bring back another 1,000 yard rusher or will the team rely more on the combo of Nicks and Tate. Or will it be a great mix of the two departments led by quarterback T.J. Yates that will make it all go as smoothly as possible.
Fourth thought: Is the defense going to be as good as the offense. Few believe that the offense is going to be a problem. Will the defense be able to be an asset as well, or will they be a liability? In this game we will see some, but not until the harder match ups will we truly see what the defense can and can't do. They lost key players, will they be able to make it up with the players that are there now.
Last thought: With Virginia Tech losing could this be UNC's year. I have to tell you, after watching the game between Va. Tech and ECU I had to wonder, could this be the year that Carolina goes to the head of the class in the Coastal Division? The Hokies didn't show me anything but weaknesses during the game, mixed in with some decent play, but nothing that a hard driving team can not beat, and that is what these Heels should be in the `08 campaign.
Well, the game is real close now (game has begun), so let's see if any of my thoughts happen during the game. I have to say it is the first time in a while that I've been feeling so anxious for a game. Oh, wait, it's because it's football season again!
