The ACC Media likes UNC's chances

. Wednesday, July 23, 2008

Welcome to the beginning of the hype, where each and every type of poll will come out to find out who is the best in one conference or another. Yes, this is the beginning of we fans/bloggers/lovers of the college gridiron begin to come out of the summer shell and develop that good feeling about our football team once again. Now is the time that each and every one of us will make bold predictions and live our dreams until our teams shatters them both.

Well, for us Tar Heels fans, there's some very good news out of the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Kickoff. The media voted on how they would see the teams coming in their division, and the Tar Heels were chosen to come in second in the Coastal, behind Virginia Tech and ahead of Miami. This is great news for Butch Davis and his team, as it has been a decade since the media at this event voted the Heels second.

This is another great boost for the young team as they wait to open training camp on August 1st. That's where the big time hype will begin as the teams train and more and more information comes out from the camps. That will all come to its climax as Carolina takes the field for the first time on August 30th against McNeese State in the friendly compound of Kenan Stadium.

Below is how the media voted for each team (From the UNC Athletic Web Page):

Atlantic Division

Clemson (59) - 383 points
Wake Forest (5) - 304
Florida State (1) - 265
Boston College - 154
Maryland - 147
NC State - 112

Coastal Division

Virginia Tech (58) - 383
North Carolina (4) - 288
Miami (1) - 253
Georgia Tech (1) - 195
Virginia (1) - 161
