UNC baseball coach Mike Fox named COY

. Monday, June 30, 2008

While the UNC baseball team wasn't able to come home with the national title, the team did bring home something that not many had thought they would get, and it is the first time ever for a Carolina baseball team. Head coach Mike Fox was named National Coach of the Year by Baseball America, a first for the team and for the skipper.

Fox, who has been at UNC for a decade now, has a 451-190-1 record, in the last three years winning at least 50 games per season, this year going 54-14. For the first time ever since the Atlantic Coast Conference has gone to a three game series with other conference foes, the Heels never dropped a weekend series in the ACC.

Coach Fox had twice won Atlantic Coach of the Year, in the last three years has come either second or third at the College World Series and won the first ACC title for UNC last year. But the stat I truly love of all of this, because of the way I believe in the Carolina family and way, is that head coach Mike Fox is one of only six men to play in the CWS and then bring back his alma mater as its skipper.

Congratulations to head coach Mike Fox on his great run this season, as well as all the work he has done since becoming the head man of this team. I don't see the level of this team going down anytime soon and that is mostly due to the great work of this coach.
