HC Roy Williams' recruiting as good as it gets

. Friday, June 27, 2008

If there is one thing that has been a constant over the last year in the recruiting world, it is the fact that head coach Roy Williams and his staff have been on a roll when it comes to getting top notch players to come to Chapel Hill. In all the commitments have been nine in twelve months, but from this small article I found the trend doesn't seem to be letting up at all. From the looks of it, UNC is now eyeing a 6'6" forward from the state of Virginia named Travis McKie.

But before the Tar Heel fan base puts this down as a "done deal", let me say that while McKie called North Carolina his "dream school", there is a whole bunch of other top level programs looking at the young man. In an interview with Scout.com he said that June 15th (the first day that coaches were allowed to contact him) there were calls from Texas, Florida, Clemson, Oklahoma, Virginia, VCU, Virginia Tech, Miami and Kansas St. along with UNC's phone call.

I have to say I am pretty amazed at how coach Williams has set this team up for the future. While Travis McKie is another piece of the puzzle to keeping the Heels atop the national rankings I am sure that he isn't the last player we will be talking/blogging about.
