Future Heel shines at the Cactus Classic

. Thursday, May 15, 2008

I'm trying to dedicate more and more time to the future, and letting the past, or better yet the three players (Lawson, Ellington and Green) thinking about leaving, be for a while. In a good article I found on rivals.com it speaks about one of the recruits that has verbally committed to the University of North Carolina. He is power forward John Henson, 6'10" 200 lbs from Round Rock (Tx). Right now the young man, set to join head coach Roy Williams' team in 2009, is ranked fifth in his class and third at his position.

John Henson was in the Arizona Cactus Classic this past weekend and did very well from what the article says. He averaged 14 points per game, along with 8 rebounds and almost 31/2 blocks per contest. Jerry Meyer, a well known and admired scout (who I had the pleasure to interview) said that Henson was very good on offense and just as good on defense. Meyer went on to compare this future Tar Heel with an ex one, Brandan Wright, saying that however he feels that Henson is more developed. He also thinks that the young man from Texas has great moves both near the basket as well as away from it.

Yet again another great player joining the ranks of the Carolina family. And he is coming to Chapel Hill in what a lot say could be the greatest recruiting job ever in the story of college basketball. The future is bright at UNC, and it is getting better, thanks to the hard work that the coaching staff does behind the scenes to bring in the best possible players.
