While the ACC baseball tournament definitely did not go as the Tar Heels expected, last night UNC received something they were probably expecting. For the third year in a row North Carolina will be one of the sixteen regional hosts for the 2008 Division I baseball championship. The games will go from Friday, May 30th through Sunday, June 1st. If there is a need for an extra game it will be played on Monday, June nd.
Playing at home for the Heels should do them well, as they were 25-6 this year. UNC was one of four Atlantic Coast Conference teams that is a hosting site. Along with the Heels Florida State, Miami and N.C. State will have home field advantage in the first part of the tournament. The remaining sites are the following: Arizona State, Cal State Fullerton, Coastal Carolina, Georgia, Long Beach State, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Rice, Stanford and Texas A&M.The winners of the 16 regionals will meet June 6th through June 9th in the best of three Super Regional round to determine the eight-team field of the 2008 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. The CWS will run from June 14th to the 25th.
