Ty Lawson is going to test the waters

. Friday, April 25, 2008

FoxSports is reporting that someone close to the situation has indicated that Ty Lawson will now test the waters (meaning he will not hire an agent just yet). This has now been confirmed by the University of North Carolina on their Athletic Web Page. He is not the only one going to test the waters, as Wayne Ellington will do the same. However in this post I am going to talk about Ty Lawson and what I think, then will do a blog about his partner in the back court.

I believe Lawson is making a mistake in doing this, as his ankle is not ready for the pounding of the NBA and he will not look as good as he would at full force. This is a 7-8 point guard class and right now Lawson is close to the bottom of that list. Giving himself one more good year would send him to the top of next year's class. However, having a bad workout in front of scouts/teams will leave a lasting and not so positive impression, and that might not be what the young man wants to do.

The other things that could be coming out of all of this is that Tyler Hansbrough and Wayne Ellington are staying? The news about Lawson's decision has brought the "haters" out in force on the web boards, making me once again say this: it is their decision, not ours. It's his life and his career and we, as fans, need to respect that. I just feel that sometimes as fans people get that feeling of ownership over the players, when all we are is just fans and nothing more. We should enjoy watching them blossom into NBA level players, thank them for letting us be there to witness their achievements and then wish them well when they move to next level.

No matter what happens, let's always remember that with or without Ty Lawson this is still the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and we will always be a force to be reckoned with.

Here is one of my favorite YouTube videos about Ty Lawson:
