The famous dunk of Green over Duke's Greg Paulus

Now that most of the aftershocks of the big three announcement has calmed down, let me bring back up something that was big news for a couple of days and now has been forgotten. So what about Danny Green? He went from no one knowing that he was interested in testing the waters, to being major news, to now being back as one that no one thought was going to test the waters. Well, actually he has gone on to be a bit more than that now, hasn't he?

I mean, if Wayne Ellington hears the right things during his process, Danny Green could become next year's starter at the shooting guard position. It's a place that I believe would fit him just fine, becoming the new back court tandem with Bobby Frasor at the point. And of course if Ellington did come back, Green would then slip back to the sixth man position, a place he liked a lot, and some analysts said he was the best in the nation.

Let's face it here, this is the University of Chapel Hill, and having players such as Danny Green come off the bench is a premium that few programs in the country can have. UNC is one of them, and that's why it's the sort of program that doesn't rebuild, it reloads. That is why losing two great players like Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington hurts, but it will never cripple the team, because you have players like Danny Green ready to step in to fill the needs of the squad.

I think that in the end we might just have the whole team back. There are a total of ten point guards thinking of playing at the next level at the moment and there are not ten teams that are in need of a point guard. Those that think they need a back up will be likely to go draft them in the second round, something I doubt that Lawson wants since 2nd rounders do not get a guaranteed contract. Elllington might not have as much competition as his team mate, but he too is no lock for the first round, and does he want to risk no contract either?

But, whether or not the two come back, Danny Green is going to be a big part of the `08-`09 season for the Tar Heels, and that is something that UNC fans should be happy about, since the young man deserves the credit that is due to him for all the hard work he put in this year. Welcome back Danny, and here's to hoping you have a great senior season!
