While the Men's side speculates about whether or not Ty Lawson and/or Wayne Ellington will come back after their taste of the NBA Draft, on the Women's side there is another question emerging. Will the head coach of the Lady Heels, Sylvia Hatchell, be leaving the program to go to South Carolina?
From an article that I found on the net, this could be a possibility. For anyone that watches and knows the Women's program this is not very good news. HC Hatchell has turned the UNC program into a powerhouse. She's been at the helm of this program for over two decades, bringing a title to Chapel Hill in 1994. In the last four seasons the Lady Heels have reached the Final Four and Elite Eight twice, posting a 130-13 record in doing so. That's a winning percentage of 90.9.The article goes on to say that anyone that they tried to contact to get a confirmation gave them the "cannot comment", "ask her" or "are not reachable" politically correct answers. On the other hand, someone like myself who is just a blogger thinks that the answer is found in the blog itself. It's all about the money, and I can understand why. If Hatchell is not amongst the best paid head coaches in the conference there is something that needs to be looked at and fixed, I think. In this day and age of coaches coming and going, having someone that has been there 22 years is an asset that no one should lose. Add to that the reality of what HC Hatchell has done and I think that Carolina just needs to do whatever they can to keep her at Chapel Hill.
I will certainly stay on top of this story, because I think it is something worth knowing about and finding out if there is any truth behind it. If there is, I also hope that the University can keep her and not lose such a valuable asset to the Athletic Department and to the school, especially to a rival team such as South Carolina!
