Changing of the guard, err, of the ram

. Wednesday, April 23, 2008

While most Tar Heel fans are awaiting news about the trio (or is that now the quartet?) and whether or not they will be returning to Chapel Hill, there is news from the football department that they will not have one of their members returning. A crucial part of the team for the last five years, yes five years, this member is not going to be coming back to Kenan Stadium due to an accident he had with his son. Yes, you read it right, by his son.

Even more strange is that it will be his son taking over for him at the college. Okay, give up yet? I am talking about Rameses XVII, and he lost a horn when he and his son (Pablo) were head butting one another. And while I was trying to make this into a semi-funny story, the reality is that when this accident happened the animal went without eating or drinking for a week and the owner thought that he was going to die from it.

Reading from this article it says that fortunately he is okay now, but he can't be the mascot anymore with just one horn. So his son, who actually did the damage, is now going to take over for him as the new Rameses of UNC. The elder ram stayed on board as the mascot for five years, and now we hope that Rameses XVIII will have the same luck.
